Great sand dunes national park
Pairs well with Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by ransom riggs
This pairing is based on the vibe, not the actual setting of the Peculiar Children series. The
novels are full of bizarre children with supernatural abilities, haunting photographs, and stories
of an unseen and magical world within the ordinary.
Like the novels, Crestone is full of the peculiar. The small town at the foot of the Sangre de
Cristo Mountains was once Navajo and Hope holy ground and is now internationally known as a
spiritual center for many religions, cults, and communes. A short drive away, North America’s
tallest sand dunes are the perfect place to spot UFOs (there is a watchtower for that purpose) or
investigate the mysterious cattle mutilations that continue today. Both the book and the dunes
will leave you with an eerie feeling.
