Miami, Florida
Pairs well with Florida by Lauren Groff
Florida isn’t just a place to get your face eaten by a stranger who is high on bath salts. It’s
beaches, relaxation, and late-season algae blooms that smell like shit. It’s clear that I’m never
going to get hired to write for the Florida tourism board, but Lauren Groff is a good candidate.
Her exotic and unusual book of short stories takes place in the great state of Florida. Groff’s
Florida was wilder and darker than the resort I stayed at, but if I squinted my eyes at our little
lizard friend, I could imagine him as a panther slinking through the humid air to taste my Pina
Colada. Also, don’t miss the Audiobook version of this novel, read by Groff. Her voice is lyrical
and lovely, and I’m not ashamed to admit that I often use Lauren Groff to lull me to sleep.
